The extraordinary leap in digital technology of recent years has allowed LAFCO to install all the tools of filmmaking into one funky bus, which is available to talented DV artists. The language of film and video is so new and accesible that it can now be the 'pencil and paper' of Cocteau's dream. It's not quite there yet, but we are the bridge between the dream and reality.

LAFCO is creating a framework and a creative arena within which independent DV films can be generated. The technical equipment is already in place and Co-op members are being recruited. This mobile production studio allows LAFCO members to shoot and edit anywhere, anytime. The Bus has already done a tour of Sundance, as well as a trip to Mexico to document a graffiti convention. Several on-site screenings have also occurred in LA.

Film production has typically been limited to those with access to large amounts of money. The means of production have been exclusively in the hands of large corporations. Many film makers have been excluded from making films by their unwillingness to work within the croporate structure of traditional commercial studios and production companies.
